Training

The training that is conducted at the Liberty Fire Company is under the direct supervision of its’ senior members, assistant chiefs and/ or the chief of the department. Each station instructor has obtained at least five years of experience in the fire service and has earned his/her FF I certification. Many instructors have also gained advanced certifications in FF II, EMT, HAZMAT Technician and/or BVR Technician. Their goal is to reinforce the formal training that is received through the various fire-training sites in the tri-county area. Our station training will not be a substitute for those fire-training sites and their nationally recognized certifications.

All firefighting training will be in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the NFPA Standard 1001- Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications and the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Eastern Region EMS Council’s guidelines for emergency medical care. The reference manuals will be: Essentials of Fire Fighting IV Edition, validated by IFSTA, Emergency Care, 8th Edition by Brady and the National Safety Council’s, Professional Rescuer CPR/AED Guidelines 2nd Edition.

Personnel in attendance must arrive on time and prepared to perform the intended evolutions. The training will be goal oriented and performance driven. A “hands-on” practical session will accompany all classroom instruction, which will insure that all personnel understand the material. At the end of the instruction, a study guide will be distributed, which must be completed prior to the next fire or medical training night. These guides will be reviewed and should be retained for later reference. During certain training, one or more safety officers will be assigned to the operation.

It is our goal to challenge everyone to become a better emergency provider, through realistic training. We need to train as we fight- fight as we train.

Thank you for your professionalism and commitment to the volunteer fire service.
